Ruling Planet: Sun
Power Chakra: Solar Plexus
Parts of Body Ruled by Leo: Back, spine, and heart
Leo season begins this year on July 22nd and goes until August 21st. Ruled by the Sun, Leo’s can teach us plenty about courage and determination. Full of ambition, Leo’s like to take charge and lead rather than to follow. No challenge is too big or boundary too high. Because their energy is electric, people have a tendency to gravitate towards them. Situations not exciting enough for a Leo? Don’t worry, they will create their own excitement with a flare of theatrics as they are born to stand in the spotlight.
What can Leo’s teach us?
♌️ Take action - rather than sitting around pondering problems that you may encounter; Leo’s remind us to take matters into our own hands. Waiting for others to fix it for us is not acceptable by a Leo’s standards. We are to take charge in our own lives, our own destiny to do what is necessary in order to move forward and change course when needed.
♌️ Take pleasure in the moment - Leo’s love to let their inner child shine brightly. They ask us to play and have fun bringing sunshine into the lives of those around us. To forgive others and to let go. Easy for Leo’s because they almost never hold grudges. Take note!
♌️ Live with purpose - Leo’s remind us to be generous, kind, and openhearted. To observe the world around us noticing that we have a role in this life, and it is up to us to find it, embrace it, and live it.
Astrology & Chakras
Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit and consists of channels within the subtle body (what you cannot see or touch) that circulate free flowing energies. There are 7 major chakras within that run from the base of the spine up to the crown of the head. All correlate to different physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the body.
There is a powerful relationship between chakras and astrology. Although each zodiac correlates to all 7 chakras, a single zodiac sign has a chakra that is more dominant than the others. Hence the term, power chakra. When this power chakra becomes out of balance, individuals with this zodiac in their chart will feel the impact on a higher and more intense level.
For instance, Leo’s that have an imbalance in their Solar Plexus chakra, may feel lethargic and lack self-confidence and motivation. They may also have a fear of rejection. Emotional strain and physical overexertion can cause back and spine ailments. Because the back, spine, and heart are ruled by Leo, incorporating yoga postures that strengthen the core are crucial. Again, noting that anyone can have this imbalance, Leo’s will feel it on a more extreme level. A level than can get to a crippling degree if not managed.
Although there are many ways to ensure that your chakras are in alignment, here are a few yoga postures that can be added to anyone’s practice to promote emotional and physical balance within the gross and subtle bodies.
Yoga Postures to Align with Leo’s Power Chakra, the Solar Plexus
*Please note, that while astrology and chakra healing can offer guidance and support, they should not replace professional medical or psychological advice. These practices are complimentary and can be used alongside conventional treatments to enhance your overall wellbeing. Before practicing yoga, please consult with your physician and always practice postures in a safe manner.
Plank Pose
Utthita Chaturanga Dandasana

Starting from a standing position, bring hands to mat keeping shoulders stacked directly over wrists, step both feet back. Keeping shoulders away from ears, focus on taking shoulder blades down your back. Avoid dipping through the back and activating the core. Pressing firmly through palms, bring belly button in and up towards the spine. Squeezing your legs together, lift knees to activate quads. While extending your sternum forward, tuck tailbone and send heels back. Gaze is roughly one foot in front of you.
Downward Facing Dog
Adho Mukha Svanasana

Beginning in plank, feet are hip-width distance apart and hands are shoulder-width distance apart. Lift hips up and back using your core. Lift knee caps to engage your quads while pressing into the mat distributing weight evenly through hands. Ears are in line with your arms and neck is long with gaze roughly 6” inches front of your feet.
Warrior II
Virabhadrasana II

Begin in a standing position leaving the left foot forward, step the right foot back with toes slightly pointed towards the front right side of your mat (Heels are in alignment). Bend into your left knee bringing it into alignment with your ankle. Lift and lengthen your arms towards the front and back of your mat, palms facing down while keeping them parallel to the floor. Begin to activate the muscles in your arms by strongly reaching towards the front and back of your mat while keeping shoulders down and away from your ears. While grounding through your feet and distributing weight into your legs evenly, press down on the outer edge of your back right foot. Activate your muscles by pulling your inner thighs together while your legs are still and unmoving. Gaze is forward and over your left fingertips.
Side Angle Pose
Utthita Parsvakonasana

From Warrior II, keeping front knee in alignment with ankle, lengthen through the spine and begin to hinge at the hips bringing your left elbow to the inside of your left knee. Right arm extends towards the sky. Gaze can be either down at your thumb or up towards your thumb. You can also bring your left forearm to your thigh rather than elbow to knee if preferred. Right arm still extends towards sky.
*For Warrior II and Side Angle, be sure to practice on both left and right sides of the body to ensure balance.
Locust Pose
Salabasana

Beginning on your belly, take arms back alongside the body. Begin to engage the back/spine and legs as you open the shoulders. Once engaged, slowly lift up and forward through the sternum while lifting legs and pointing toes towards the back of the mat. Feet can be together or apart. You can also do this in sections starting with lifting only the chest while legs stay on the mat or vice versa, lifting only the legs and leaving the chest on the mat. Gaze is about one foot in front of you towards the floor.
How Do You Know if You Have This Zodiac Sign in Your Chart?
Most likely you are familiar with your sun sign. It is the sign that is more widely known as it relates to the month and day you were born. So, your sun sign is not a Leo. Guess what? You could still have Leo placements in your birth chart. Typically, you’d focus on your sun, moon, and rising (ascendant) signs to gain a more thorough picture and getting your birth chart is easy. There are multiple sources online that will give you a free report. I used astrologyzone.com. You will need your birth date and the exact time you were born for the most accurate information as planets are constantly rotating.
For example, you know of someone that has the same birthday as you but you both have COMPLETELY different personalities. Thats because your natal placements are different. Of course you are not going to be anything like the other! Even if you are twins, you could have different placements which is why the time you were born is so critical.
Still no Leo in your natal chart? It doesn’t matter! You can still enjoy the wonderful benefits of these 3 postures as you still have the Sacral Chakra within you. Life happens and things naturally get out of balance when we are not prepared for it. So, practice these postures anytime and anywhere!
Conclusion
Leo season is upon us and taking action, taking pleasure in the moment, and living with purpose are just a few of the things that Leo’s can teach us. There is definitely a lot more that we can learn from the bold, enthusiastic, and creative Lion. Be brave and possess nobility and pride ruling your internal kingdom starting with self-care.
